For Immediate Release
Los Angeles, Calif., December 11, 2017 – East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital (ELADH) recently announced that it has achieved 5-stars for its performance in Labor and Delivery in both Vaginal Delivery and C-Section Delivery from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. These 5-star ratings indicate that the hospital’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.
“These recognitions from Healthgrades highlight the tremendous dedication of our team of physicians, nurses and staff here at ELA,” said Jerry Clute, CEO at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital. “It is gratifying to receive such positive feedback and know that we are providing the best care to our patients.”
To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance, Healthgrades analyzed all- payer state data for 17 states for years 2013 through 2015. Healthgrades found that there is a significant variation in hospital quality between those who have received 5-stars in Labor and Delivery and those who have not. For example:
- Upon examination of 2013-2015 data and statistics, Healthgrades determined that patients treated in hospitals receiving a 5-star rating in C-Section Delivery, have, on average, a 66.0% lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated by hospitals with 1-star. Similarly, patients of a 5-star Vaginal Delivery hospital have on average, a 54.9% lower risk of experiencing a complication.***
“Consumers place high-quality outcomes at the top of their wish list when selecting a hospital, so health systems that have achieved this particular distinction stand out among their peers,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Especially in an environment where consumers have more choices than ever before about where to receive care, a hospital’s commitment to achieving high-quality outcomes for their patients is more important than ever.”
ELADH administration, physicians and staff are proud to have received this recognition, and have been working closely with organizations, such as the California Maternal Quality of Care
Collaborative’s Maternal Data Center and the March of Dimes, to identify any areas in which they can constantly improve and keep c-sections at a low rate. ELADH is also proud to be recognized as a “Baby Friendly” birth facility by Baby Friendly USA for ensuring that all new mothers receive education and counseling on breastfeeding.
